3 Nights - What To Do?

My wife, my dog, and I will be camping at Living Forest Oceanside Campground in about a week from now. We will be there 3 days before moving on to Tofino.

We are looking for activities that we can do with our dog, or options to board our dog for a few hours while we go. In the evenings we plan on eating in town and was hoping there may be a patio that would allow us to tie our dog on just outside - or something similar.

Also are there good hikes in town with good views of the city and bay.

Thanks for the help

Hi Rokerij,

Welcome to the Forum. Sorry can't help you much as I am not a dog owner and am not familiar with restaurants that will allow you to tie your dog up outside.

There are a few parks that allow dogs off-leash but you would be best advised to contact the Parks and Rec Department at www.nanaimo.ca to find out where those parks are. One of them is Cable Bay Trail fairly close to Living Forest. Another is the back portion of the trail around Westwood Lake. The folks at Living Forest will give you directions.

An excellent hike is to the top of Mt. Benson. This, at times, strenuous hike is very rewarding with views across to Vancouver, Coast Mountain range, Gulf Islands and across to the Sunshine Coast. Maps are available from Nanaimo Area Land Trust.

Hope that helps a bit!

Enjoy camping in Nanaimo and on Vancouver Island.
