Going East from Kelowna

My son will be staying with relatives in Kelowna and Penticton for much of April then heading off eastward to Tennessee - any suggestions for part rail part flight routes?

Following from our other question about getting to Kamloops, your son would need to take Greyhound back to Kamloops to hook up with VIA Rail to continue back east as far as Toronto. I think you will find it quite expensive to take the train, moreso than flying. But he might like to get to Jasper for a night or two there and then continue on to Edmonton where he could catch a plane south. There would also be a shuttle service from Jasper to Edmonton airport.

Why not just take ViaRail back from Kamloops to Vancouver and fly from there?

Horizon Air has daily flights from Kelowna to Seattle. Possible rail connections from Seattle east.
