Jasper in October???

We are thinking about visiting Jasper October 07. Will we be to late for elk bugeling? How about bears, will they be in hibernation by the first week of October? Will all the restaurants be open? And finally, will it be busy the weekend of your Thanksgiving? Thanks so much. We visited Jasper a few days in September this year and we want to go back next year for a week. The rates are low the first week of October and I want to make sure restaurants, etc. will be open.

Hi Trina & David,

While the tourist season goes until our Thanksgiving holiday weekend, which will be Monday, Oct. 8 in 2007, the crowds do thin out during the last half of September and into October. The elk rut (mating season) will be in full swing in early October - it tends to taper off later in the month. Bears will be wandering widely, looking for food to fatten up for hibernation - they don't den up until a little later (when the snow flies). The first week of October is also the height of fall colour around here (aspen trees) and while the nights are cool, the daytime temps are often quite nice (10 to 20C... about 50 to 70F). Everything will still be open - restaurants, hot springs, the tramway, and the seasonal roads, so it is a good time to visit. Glad to hear that you enjoyed yourselves last year!
