Accomodation in Jasper

Hi,

We are thinking of going to Jasper from Vancouver by Via Rail in late November. Will be arriving Jasper around 4pm, so we are thinking of looking for hotel that is close to the rail station. We will only stay the night at Jasper, as we are going down to Banff the next day. There seems to be only 3 choices within that area: Whistler's inn, Park Place Inn, and Athabasca Hotel. Both Whistler's Inn and Park Place Inn's rooms are all booked out, so the only option left is Athabasca Hotel. Has anyone ever tried this place? Is it safe and clean? Any other suggestions are welcomed. Thank you!

Yes, it's safe. Jasper is a small town with very little crime. I have never stayed there so can't comment on cleanliness but would suggest you check the reviews for that info. Note that unless you plan to be in the nightclub until closing, you probably don't want to be in one of the rooms above it.

The Astoria Hotel is also only a block from the train station and the Amethyst is only a short walk away. Cab rides are only $5 in town.

I was going to suggest not limiting yourself to 'right' downtown. The Marmot and Chateau jasper are just fine and a $5 cab ride or so from the train station. I've stayed at Whistlers and wasn't very impressed. These are perhaps 5 blocks from the depot.

The Whistler is right across the street from the train station and is a nice, clean and reasonably priced hotel. We have often stayed there. Also, there are restaurants on the premises which are good. The roof top hot tub can't be beat! :). Out the back door of the hotel is a grocery store and you are within close walking distance of the shops, restaurants, etc.

Note that the OP's trip has probably already happened by now - they mentioned "late November".
