Where is the trail located for Maligne Canyon? Easy parking access? How long is this trail? Is it an easy walk? Thanks
There is a large parking lot at Maligne Canyon, adjacent to the restaurant and gift shop, and the trail starts at the top of the canyon. You can walk all the way down to Sixth Bridge, where the Maligne River joins the Athabasca River. But then you have to walk back up .... (Or you can do the trip in reverse; there is also parking at Sixth Bridge.)
To see the canyon, I would suggest walking down at least the first three bridges - this is not very far, maybe 1 km total. You will likely have a lot of company - this is a popular spot for tour buses to stop. It's about 4 km one way from the top of the canyon to Sixth Bridge. It's a nice walk, but very busy... if you want to do a hike of that length, there are a lot of better options, in my opinion. The section between Fifth Bridge and Sixth is almost completely flat (no canyon) ... note that Fifth Bridge was washed out in last year's flooding, so crossing the river there is not an option right now (the bridge will not be rebuilt this summer).
