Jasper to Whistler

We will be driving from Jasper to whistler this summer ( July ).

Mapquest gives an approximate journey time of 9 hours but that is obviously without stops. Can anyone advise us if this is realistic?

There will be two drivers for the journey so we do not intend stopping overnight on route.

Probably fairly realistic. The trip from Jasper to Cache Creek is good highway driving and you should average about 90km/hr. From Cache Creek to Whistler their are sections that are narrow and twisty and thus slower travelling.

You will also have a time change when you cross the BC/Alberta border, you gain one hour.

Should be a beautiful trip. There are lots of scenic stops along the way if you so desire.

Enjoy your stay!

Johnboyjones,

I'd add about 1-2 hrs if you are only planning to stop for fuel and fast food. Plan your fuel and food stops; in Western Canada, opportunities for both are probably *much* further apart than you are used to in the U.K.

I hope you don't plan on driving at night; not only do you have an increased risk of hitting wildlife (deer) at night, but you could also miss out on some pretty spectacular scenery, which would be a pity. The days are fairly long in July, so if you get an early start, there should be no reason not to do this trip in daylight.
