Calgary-Banff-Jasper then to Vancouver

Is the following feasible in 7 days. Fly Ottawa to Calgary and rent a car for 4 or 5 days to see Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper then return the car to Calgary Airport . Fly to Vancouver and in Vancouver we would want to see Stanley Park, downtown area and Whistler and fly back to Ottawa from Vancouver Airport.

Just driving from Calgary to Jasper would we see the mountains and nice scenery and would we have seen much the same if we drove from Calgary all the way to Vancouver?

Hi barmcm ~

Your question here is a little different than on your Vancouver thread. And that is a good thing.

Most would recommend 4 nights Banff and 3 nights Jasper, but that would use all your time without getting to Vancouver.

One thing you could try to do is arrive from Ottawa as early in the day as possible. Then rent the car, drive the 2 hours to Banff but continue up the Icefields Parkway to Jasper on the same day. It's 5 hours altogether, but you would want to visit as many points of interest as you could on the way up. Stay 2 nights.

Back down the Icefields Parkway for a bonus and different experience over a full day to Banff for 3 nights. Get in a visit to LL on the way to Banff.

Drive back to Calgary early morning for a 1.5 hour flight to Vancouver for 2 nights to get in Stanley Park and other Vancouver sights. Visiting Whistler, as mentioned on your other thread, is a day trip. You need 2 hours to get up there with stops for points of interest extra time, 4-5 hours up there to look around and then 2 hours back down to Vancouver.

Here are the points of interest on the Icefields Parkway which can take up to 10 hours to explore. Open the PDF link underneath the fuzzy image you will see, for a more legible view:

Once you get into BC the scenery changes, more trees on hillsides, the oakanagen valley which is lush, and we drove up and over to Vancouver via Whistler and we hit desert plains - I found it fascinating - but it is a long drive.
