I will be at Lake Louise June 11-13. Will be lakes in that area still be frozen?

Each year is different, but I would guess it will be gone from Lake Louise by then (but only just). In recent years, the ice off dates for Lake Louise were May 28 (2013), June 6 (2012), June 9 (2011), May 31 (2010), June 2, (2009), June 5 (2008). I can only see 1 year in the past 20 where the ice remained until June 13. Higher elevation lakes will likely still be frozen.

Yeah, but this year has been very different. Everything is melting/thawing late this year. Ski resorts just closed.

This assumes that you're talking about Lake Louise, AB, which this is the forum for. If there's another Lake Louise in California, as your thread title suggests, I imagine it would not be frozen...

Very interesting to read the Lake Louise ice off dates for the last couple of years!

Is there any knowledge on Peyto Lake? Is the ice off date usually earlier or later than Lake Louise? The elevation is a bit higher.

PhilBel,

If you go to my profile and have a look at my contributions/photos you will see photos of both lakes taken only a day or two apart at the beginning of June 2008. Peyto seems to be a little behind LL from those photos, but not by much.

Nice pics Frommy!

Peyto seems a little behind indeed, but the advantage looks to me that Peyto is also amazingly beautiful in this state as the turquoise color already shines through while still thawing.
