Driving Banff to Jasper

We will be in Banff on September and we wanted to drive Banff to Jasper. Is it safe to drive during this season? If so, how long is the travel time. Please advise and thank you very much for your time.

Hello,

I will be in Calgary for 10 days on the first week of April and was planning on taking 3 nights to go to Jasper and back. to take in the beautifull scenery. Any suggestion of places we can stay at other than the fairmount luxry hotel in Jasper? As well where would you stay on the way over and back. I was thinking of staying in Lake louise for one night, would you have any other suggestions?

thanks!

For where to stay between Lake Louise and Jasper. check out this recent discussion on the Banff forum:

tripadvisor.ca/ShowTopic-g154911-i221-k34194…

However, all of those places will probably be closed during the first week of April; phone to check.

And be aware that wintry weather conditions may make the road from Lake Louise to Jasper (Icefields Parkway, Highway 93) very dangerous, or even close it. So make sure to have an alternate plan, especially since you are visiting during the Easter break, when some schools let out and families go for a ski holiday.

All accommodations in Jasper are listed at the Jasper Tourism website: www.jaspercanadianrockies.com . You can check the reviews section here at TA for reviews on various properties: tripadvisor.ca/Hotels-g154918-Jasper_Jasper_…

Calgary to Jasper is a five hour drive (straight through, not counting scenic stops); the only accommodation open on the parkway at that time of year is Num-ti-jah Lodge, which is only about 20 minutes' drive north of Lake Louise.

The end of March & beginning of April is spring break for many school districts, including most of the Edmonton and Calgary districts, so it will be a busy time in Jasper (and Banff) - there will definitely be accommodation available, but you might want to book ahead.
