Banff - Christmas 2006 !

Just returned from a fantastic week in the Canadian Rockies!

we booked a package through Inghams and stayed at the banff inn.

the hotel was good, a 10 minute walk from the centre of town and the rooms are cleaned daily, we had a deluxe room with had 2 double beds and a jetted tub - good to relax in after skiing or walking ! the room was nicely decorated but the bathroom was a little dated, and there is not any food service in the hotel, but they have drinks and snack machines along with ice machines too. there are plenty of hotels around with restaurants to pop too!

Whilst in Banff we had great meals as always in Canada ! yet to have any bad food! for Christmas day we just had the buffet at the Carumba restaurant at the Ptarmigan inn, which was ok but for $18 a head who cares! and then we pre-booked the Maple leaf grill for the evening, they had a set menu and that was fab with some great wines too!

we also ate at the Saltlik and the food was gorgeous and the service great too> you have to order sides to go with the steaks - but they are massive so you will not want one each!

we took a sleigh on Christmas day from the Warner stables which I loved and it was snowing too - what a great day ! for only $24 (£11) you had 45 min on the slight - a bit bumpy but fun, with a very knowledgable guide.

Never going to fly Monarch again though, the seats are small, so lucikly we pre-booked the extra legroom seat - definately worth it for £30 pp each way. but due to 'bad' weather they wouldn't land the planes in Calgary for our return flight home - even though ALL other airlines were still landing and taking off from there! this resulting in the passengers arriving having their flight diverted to Edmonton and us then having to bne bussed up there on a 4 hr coach ride to meet the plane - that then had limited food! (had previously flown with them to Crete and this was their2nd chance !)

had a fantastic time in banff, not too happy with the Inghams reps they are not very informative, and do not want to fly monarch again!

but we will be back to Canada in May and definately going to Banff - we love it !

enjoy your trips and feel free to ak any questions !

regards

Lucy

Glad you had fun...we spent two days in the mountains starting on Boxing Day and heard TONS of English accents...

You missed the big snow though - we had about 4 -6 inches that started Boxing night..

Davies1980,

Thanks so much for the feedback, that is very helpful!

Where did you stay? Any other feedback on the hotel?

The info on the sleigh ride is useful. I was hoping to take a dogsled ride at Lake Louise for my birthday in January, but that's not working out. The sleigh ride could be a good alternative. Where did you go on the sleigh?
