Hiking Trails around Banff National Park

Hi everyone,

We're travelling through the Banff National Park and Jasper National parks starting 1 Aug 2013. The new reports of which walking trails are open and which are closed due to flood damage is sketchy. I was wondering if anyone can give me an update on the situation with the hiking trails that are "off the usual tourist trail" (so to speak).

Thanks,

Paul.

I'm not sure where the sketchy new reports are that you mention, but these Parks Canada reports are very detailed:

The recent flooding in southern Alberta did not affect Jasper National Park at all. You can read the trail report on the JNP website: www.pc.gc.ca/jasper (There are also "Bear Reports" and you links to the reports on the other parks' websites.) Be sure to read about the "tight group of four" restrictions on the Moraine Lake trails in BNP - they are now in effect, for grizzly bear conservation and hiker safety.

Hi, we can confirm that. We were in Canmore cedar springs area were yes driving through the area two weeks ago, workers were trying so hard to repair roads.. We did see paths closed due to bridge damage. We managed after four days to take the long route around to Jasper 7 hour drive. After a few hours driving the river water levels were getting lower. Finally in the Jasper BC area we spent a full week in this fantastic area and can only say that no sign of any damage was seen. 24-30 June.
