Late June or July?

Looking into a trip to Banff/LL/Jasper either the last week of June or 2nd week of July. Last week of June is much cheaper, and probably less crowded than July. But wondering what the difference in weather will be? We will spend most of our time hiking.

There will probably be fewer mosquitoes in the last week of June - the mossie season doesn't really get going until into July. There will be a little less snow in the high country the later you come.

Statistically speaking, there's not a huge change in the weather with only a couple of weeks' difference in time - you could get really beautiful or totally crappy weather in either span. A couple of years ago, I got snowed out on a backpacking trip on July 12th (over a foot of snow at 6800 feet, only cold and heavy rain at the townsite elevation), and about five years before that, there was a similar weather event on the August long weekend and Parks Canada was doing heli rescues of ill-prepared backpackers from the Skyline Trail here in Jasper NP ... that kind of weather is not a "normal" event in full summer, but not beyond the realm of possibility either.

Yes but the OP has stated "late June or July" so ice on the lake won't be an issue for them.

Yes, I think that is the most predictable difference. While it's impossible to predict what the weather will be in the last week of June or the 2nd week of July in 2013, we do know that the second week of July in any given year generally has less snow on the ground and more flowers than the last week of June in that same year. And, as the OP has pointed out, more visitors and higher prices.
