current swimming conditions

We're about to spend 5 days in Puerto Penasco and were wondering if the gulf water is warm enough for swimming in mid-April. Has anyone been in recently?

This may be too late but the water there is pretty warm because it is at the top of the Sea of Cortez. It is mirky and there is nothing to see if you plan to snorkel but dunking in it and walking along the beach is a dream. Get the Rocky Point Gringo Guide to Puerto Penasco Mexico for more information. Enjoy!

Not sure what area the other poster was in, but we just returned from our annual reunion down there. We stayed at Playa Elegante and the water is not murky unless there is a storm. It was so clear you see 20' at least. This is not Fiji or Hawaii but the water is very warm and clear. Hubby took spring suit and never needed it.

Very nice and warm but dangerous rocks entering and leaving water. Be sure to do it at high tide or you will end up like at least 10 of the 30 we took down --- cut and bleeding.

Do you know what the water temperture was when you were there? I'll be there this weekend.

Not for sure but it had to be 70 or 71. You just have the inital shock then it is over and feel perfect. Of course, living in San Diego where right now the water is not even 60, could sway me to feel that RP was warmer.

Had spring suits but did not need them. I guess it all depends on the person.
