ElDorado Seaside Suites VS Excellence Riviera Cancuin

Hello,

We have a few questions about the ElDorado Seaside Suites Resort. First, I see the restaurants are ala carte. Do they happen to have snack bars or anything like that set up to just help yourself to a quick lunch or snack during the day?? Also, is there a charge for premium and or non-domestic beverages and food items? How far are the swim-up suites from the ocean?

We are currently booked in the Excellence Riviera Cancun, but have been reading some concerning reviews about the resort in the past few months. We are scheduled to leave in a few weeks so we must make a decision soon....HELP!! Any comments/recommendations are welcome!! Thanks so much!!!

We are off to the El Dorado Seaside Suites next week. We have done our research and it would appear there is a lunch Beach BBQ and also the sandwichere (?) which is like a snack bar. And does burritos etc. If you go to their website they have menus to download

We actually have stayed at excellence riveria cancun a couple of years ago. It was good so confused to hear there have been bad reports. We have stayed at a few of their resorts and have always had a great time. We just decided we wanted a change this time and wanted the ability to snorkel off the beach

Good luck.

Stayed at EDSS last January and ERC last August. Both are nice resorts but I give the nod to ERC. EDSS is in more of a jungle setting and there are no rooms with a direct view of the ocean. We had an ocean front but the trees and foliage blocked the view. Ocean front rooms at ERC are just that, ocean front. EDSS is not as spread out as ERC so you do less walking. ERC is a 30 minute ride from the airport where EDSS is at least an hour.

EDSS-There was no additional charge for premium drinks. They have an area beachside where they have lunch items daily such as hamburgers, salads, BBQ, buritos, etc. They mixed the menu up somewhat each day. Depending on where the swim-up suite is dictates how far you are from the ocean. Don't remember any buffets being there.

ERC- They have a lunch buffet at one of the restaurants daily which was very good. They also have a different meal prepared on the beach each day. Menu varies from hamburgers, BBQ, seafood, etc. They also have premium alcohol at no additional charge. You can also have lobster every meal if you like at no additional charge which you couldn't at EDSS. The surf and turf at the Lobster was excellent.

In my opinion you made the right choice with ERC. Enjoy your vacation.

We just returned from EDSS 12/10-12/18 and had a great time. We have stayed exclusively at the Karisma resorts for the past 7 years, so cannot comment on any other properties.

There is no additional charge for premium beverages and the selection is fairly good. As for the food, you can always order something light, even "off the menu". Just ask your waiter and they will try to accommodate your wishes.

The swim-ups are at the rear of the resort, farthest from the beach. Also there is a new building going up directly behind some of the swim-up sections so it can be noisy during the day (only). Unless you plan to spend all your time in the room, save the money and get a garden room. We find ourselves on a beach bed or at one of the pools usually, reserving the rooms for showering, changing clothes, and sleeping.

I just posted my review this morning, so it should be up by tomorrow at the latest if you would like more information. Have a great vacation!

EDSS is wonderful and we loved our stay there. Rooms are lovely, grounds tropical and gorgeous. Food was amongst the best we have ever had at an AI resort, fresh and tasty with good variety.

We had lunch at the grill/ceviche bar at the beach each day. They offered a nice variety of options with something for everyone.

There are tons of bali beds on the beach and scattered about the beautiful grounds. Beach was pleasant but not special. We are not pool people so did not spend much time there.

Staff at EDSS was very good and they were getting ready to open their new spa shortly after our stay.

One of the things we really enjoyed about EDSS was that several of the restaurants had bars where you could sit and have a drink before and after dinner.

Have stayed at EPM but not ERC and would not return to an Excellence resort. Food overall was a big disappointment and beds were hard with scratchy sheets. Beds at EDSS were so much nicer.
