Barra or Melaque?

Which is the nicer place to stay in terms or hotels, walking the beach, views, food, etc?

Which hotels are nicer, the Hotel Barra De Navidad or Hotel Monterrey? Or Casa Senorina? In all my research I can't seem to get this sorted out and have become confused.

Melaque is a working class town with many nice places and restaurants. Barra is a little fancier and touristy. Both nice places.

Barra has more night life and restaurants in a smaller area than does Melaque so for strolling from place to place Barra is the more convenient of the two. Barra is divided into three distinct areas in three distinct zones, the Centro, the Cabo Blanco subdivision and the Barrio. The beach, malecon, most of the accommodation including the two places you are considering, the bars and the good restaurants are all in the Centro.

Melaque is more spread out with less zone distinction, different types of accommodation and housing are more mixed up together than they are in Barra. Melaque also has more light industrial business (mechanics, welders etc.) than Barra does. In Melaque the better restaurants and the accommodation are scattered throughout town from one end to the other.

The Hotel Barra de Navidad and the Monterrey are both older properties right on the beach. The Navidad has quite a new pool and is in good shape, they have many ocean view rooms with balconies or terraces. I have not been in the Monterrey so can't comment on it at all. Casa Senorina is a lovely once private home that has been converted into a B & B style hotel. The house is set in a tropical walled garden that includes a very nice big pool.
