Turtle Season... Olive Ridley "Golfina"

Just wanted to make certain that the travelers to the area are particularly observant to the fact that the sea turtles have returned, and you may come upon a nest or evidence thereof, while combing the beaches. In the event that you do discover a nest, please advise the security of any of the hotels in the area so that they may contact the appropriate authorities in order to relocate the nest to a protective corral. You may also notice that the beaches are patrolled at night by local biologists/technicians who are especially trained and credentialed to handle and transport the turtle eggs which are protected by federal law in Mexico....

As for the progress,... due to the arid conditions the first nests did not incubate to fruition, however, the first viable hatchlings are anticipated during the third week of August, which will mark the beginning of the turtle release season (which is in effect much later this year than in years past)....

Thanks to eveyone in advance for doing their part in protecting the wildlife of this beautiful region.

We are at the Presidente 10/22-10/27. Would love to see the turtle release if we're not too late.

We still have some nests in the corral, and if I am not mistaken, some nests are scheduled to emerge next week.

Additionally, we have two nests marked in front of the property, which we are allowing to remain on the beach and emerge naturally, but these would be much later in the season.

See you soon.

much later like maybe on I don't know ah maybe late December?;-) Ok I know I have been part of many releases but I just never get tired of it...must be the kid in me:-)

as soon as I can figure out how to get the video I took this last trip off the camera on on TA I'll put my "great turtle saga" on...I ran across a baby that found its way out of the corral and was heading to the ocean so I walked with him and filmed it. since it wasn't even completely sunup yet and no one was around I decided to be his/her escort to the ocean...what an experience:-)
