Kat, others please advise!

After hearing me rave about Cabo, my brother is planning to go. He has discovered that he does not have a birth Cert. Since he was born in Louisiana, he can't get a copy for months due to the hurricane.....

This leaves him with only a drivers license and military papers. The airline, Northwest, says he should be fine. What do you think?

Thanks,

Mark

Wow, that's a tricky one! Did he have a military passport? He may want to have a notorized afidavid also, but I would not be so sure about NW saying he should be fine! Is he close to a consulate office for Mexico? Also, I would check with our Govt. also, especially in light of the new threats. Nothing is fine these days. If I think of any other info that I can look up from the office I will post it tomorrow.

Mark, when you say "military papers" what does that mean? Is he currently in the military with military ID, or is it just his records from past military service? An active duty ID may be useful, but I doubt if his records (like DD Form 214) would suffice. The real issue these days is not getting IN to Mexico, it's getting BACK IN to the United States. I would contact US Immigration/Homeland Security to get the requirements to get home.

I rather doubt the CAD/DOD card will make a difference with Immigrations - I have one of those myself and unless you are Military, they probably wouldn't have a clue!!!

m&s00: wow this is a hard one. I am pretty sure that most birthcertifcate are now archived and they have a national database of birthcerticates. Most states are in it already. I think there is a goverment website they may have it stored to. If I can find that website I will post it on here.

I would nervous going to Mexico without proper documentation. He might be able to get in to mexico but what about getting out of mexico? The other thing you can do would be have him go to the airport with the documentions he has in question and they will be able to direct him to the immigration office right at the airport and I am sure they would be able to help him. I just wouldn't wait until the day before to do that I would go weeks ahead of time so that he will have time to get whatever else paperwork he may need.

Good luck!

He does have a DD214 from prior service. Louisiana says that there is no way to get a real birth certificate quickly.

I would definitely follow Eljefe's advice and contact our authorities, and not take any chances! The airlines are definitely not always up on requirements! You can get a different answer from them each time you call. I agree, he would probably have the most trouble getting back to the US, but there is a good chance he would be denied boarding going as well. Sticky situation! Wish there was a better amswer. Hopefully someone will find a way for him to get the necessary paperwork.

Try this, I think the national database is on here. Not sure if this will help?

good luck
