Cabo San Lucas vs Riviera Maya (Cancun area) - Spring Break

Hi Experts,

Trying to put together a high school senior spring break trip to Mexico. Parents WILL accompany the seniors. We have done RIU Palace Riviera Maya the past two years and my (now) senior son is requesting someplace similar but different. Last year, we had a group of approximately 80 people.

Desires: 5 (or 4) star property. Clean, safe. All Inclusive; good food...these boys eat a lot. Disco/dance clubs for the kids. Safe area so that the kids can venture out of the hotel property. Room set ups where the parents can have kids in rooms nearby (or adjoining). Great pools/beach area. Activities at the resort. Multiple restaurant choices. We would like a busy, happening place, but not insane - like downtown Cancun.

Specific hotel properties suggestions welcome as well as a broader sense of the pro's and con's of Cabo over Riviera Maya. Having been to Riviera Maya twice, I'd like thoughts about Cabo.

Thank you so much for input as quickly as possible.

One of the happening resorts for Spring Break in Cabo is the Riu Santa Fe. They have 902 guestrooms which will be more than sufficient to accommodate your group of 80 people. The Cabo San Lucas and Baja peninsula area is a Desert fauna, so is different than the Riviera Maya. At the Riu Santa Fe they have an excellent entertainment crew during the day and also for the nightly entertainment shows. Resort has all the requirements you wanted.

The Cabo San Lucas is considered to be a safe area, just follow the precautions you would at home. If out late at night it is recommended to take Taxi's back to the resort.

Here are some video's that will give you a more visual view of the resort.

I agree with RIU. There are no where near as many All-Inclusives in Cabo San Lucas, like there are in the Cancun area. So the list is pretty short for what you can choose from if you want to be walking distance to town.

We did the same for my son 4 years ago. There were 7 families with seniors but various age siblings ...there were a lot of us. We chose Palladium in Riv Maya as we really didn't want the kids off the resort. The palladium has like 20 bars , many restaurants and there's approx 4 diff levels of different resorts and accommodations you can choose from. We go to Cabo every year with our immediate family as its our favorite place....but a large group like that the only resort in Cabo I could see as a possibility is RIU. There are many more selections of AI resorts in Riv Maya area.

The Riu Palace has a bit more options such as 24 hour room service and you still have full use of all that Riu Santa Fe includes. They are side by side. They are both perfect choices for a spring break trip!

It's a long walk, but some people walk to Medano Beach from Riu. Medano is the busy swimmable beach with many activities. Downtown Cabo is great for bars and restaurants and lots of fun!! Walking around the marina is interesting and there's lots to see, fun for people watching. It isn't crazy like Cancun seemed to be the one time we were there.

A change is good. We like the Riviera Maya too, Cabo is beautiful in it's own way - We love it!
