Got to the docks at 6:30am and multi-champion Captain Jobey was there with his crew ready and waiting for us. Hopped aboard and took off right away. Grabbed our fishing licenses, bait, and out to sea. We saw many fish, but they just weren't in the mood to bite. Looked around and no one was getting hooked up. After losing a marlin, we hooked up to a Hammerhead, which we landed and released. Great fight. Then we continued to spot fish, who just weren't hungry. Unfortunately, much of the morning went this way. And all the boats around, and there were many, were going through the same thing, nada. Then Captain Jobey comes down from the tuna tower and says, "Don't worry. The fish didn't want to bite in the morning because of the tide. They'll bite in the afternoon and everyone will catch a fish." Sure enough, we ended up catch and releasing a nice sailfish that my 7yr old son caught. Beautiful fish, bigger than he was! Then later we hook up to a marlin. My nephew is fighting this when the crew members hook us into a second marlin. Double hook up! Now I'm fighting this fish at the same time. Soon, my nephew brings his fish aboard only to find that the marlin was hooked in the eye, bleeding badly. Had to keep this one. Minutes later, I bring my fish to the boat, which we were able to revive and release. Then, the rest of the afternoon and into the early evening, like the morning, we continued to spot several marlin and a dorado, but they wouldn't bite. Unfortunately, we didn't catch more fish, just the four, but the captain kept his promise and continued into the early evening to try and get us even more. Great captain, great trip all-in-all, and the boat itself ran smoothly. If the fish were in the mood to bite that day, we would have caught at least a dozen marlin. But we were very happy about our results as Captain Jobey is the real deal. And his crew worked VERY hard to make it a great trip. AND much thanks to Lori with Cabo Magic, for being so prompt and for answering all my questions. She made it an easy choice to fish with Cabo Magic, and it was definitely the RIGHT choice.
Though we could not release one of our marlin, we didn't let it go to waste. Let me just say, fresh marlin sashimi was excellent, marlin on the grill was excellent...
