Help needed for an all too short trip!!! Route advice please

Hi,

We have around 8 nights to spend in the winelands and Garden Route. Having spent a fair bit of time in Cape Town already our plan is:

17th November: Airport to Stellenbosch for the first night

Then 2 nights in Franschhoek - wine tram on one of the days.

Leave around 10.00am to drive to either Kynsna or Plettenberg with a lunch stop on the way and stay for 2 nights. Not sure which area to stay in, leaning towards Kynsna due to lots of activities and great places to stay. Idea is to take the fast N2 route - how long should it take us?

From here we have to head back and thought about talking the slower R62 back to Cape Town. Do we stop on the way and if so where?? Is Montagu or Barrydale around half way? Anything we really should not miss? As we are going mid-November I fear we maybe a little late for Whale viewing, if not, is Plett any good for this?

We should have one more night in Camps Bay before we have to leave.

Soo many questions, sorry! Just trying to fit as much as is possible without feeling as if we are chasing our tail the whole time, not being sure about distances and driving times this is really hard!

Any suggestions or comments gratefully received.

I'm not sure about whales in Hermanus in November but if they are still there, I'd be tempted to swap it around as follows:

17 Nov: airport to Hermanus for first 1 or 2 nights

Then drive to Knysna for 3 nights (about 4.5 hrs driving time)

Then back via the slow route to the winelands, overnighting as needed, before having your final night in Camps Bay
