Driving through Garden Route

Hi All,

Could any one advise regarding how & from where to rent a car in Cape Town to be left in Port Elizabeth?

I see some agencies are including a note for a "Security Check"

Please advice good agent with good prices and easy procedures for a non SA resident.

Thanks,

Ahmed Mansy

My wife and I rented a Honda Jazz (aka FIT) from AVIS in Cape Town in February and dropped off at PE airport about 11 days later on a Sunday. The total cost was R6708 (CAD 898). We may have spent more than we might have, but given that we ran over a tail pipe at one point, which flipped up and dented the driver's door, and owned up to this at PE airport, we have never heard anything more about it or been charged for it (granted we had coverage on our Canadian VISA card for this type of damage). The AVIS staff seemed more concerned that we hadn't been hurt than the fact that the car had.

All in all, we are very pleased. I think you get what you pay for, even if it means paying more than you would by renting from some of their competitors.

Hope this helps.

We rented from Thrifty in Cape Town (airport) and dropped it off in Port Elizabeth. We made the reservations over the Internet, through Orbitz. No problem with the rental at all.

Thank you all, highly appreciated

What about the additional driver thing, we are a group of three, do we have to pay more in order to be permitted to shift in driving?

Thanks,

we used the UK broker carhire 3000 as it was cheaper than booking directly with the car hire companies in cape Town. We dropped the car off at Port Elizabeth, there was a drop off charge ( can't remember the amount but Ok) and we had 3 drivers insured. The drop off charge and 2 extra drivers insurance (approx £18 each) was paid locally at CT. drop of charge was approx.

All the main car hire companies are used to pick up at CT and drop off at PE as it is very popular tourist route.

All insurance was included in the car hire charge (including 1 driver) that we paid for in the UK.

Hi Ahmed

It looks like you got all the answers to your questions. I have to agree with all the others, to rent from Airport to Airport and pay for the extra drivers. It will still be much cheaper and more convenient to travel by car than with the bus.
