car rental

Hello friends,

we are going to TULUM and wondering if we could rent a car when we get there paying in cash or do they require credit cards? To tell you the truth we would rather rent a moped (we are from Greece and used to drive in traffic and bad roads, we also rent mopeds in Phuket Thailand),but we got scared with reports that taxi drivers would drive you off the road and such.

Also, unrelated, but is the sea warm enough ? We get there 10th of February.

Thank you all in advance.

Most car rentals require a credit card. We are renting ours at the airport to avoid transfer costs. Also, the sea is warm and crystal clear. I've been there several times. It is paradise.

Driving is easy, roads are good, signs are clear. Read up on driving and possible gas scams, etc. There is good info. on the playa Del Carmen and the Riviera Maya Forums under Top Questions.

Ocean is plenty warm for swimming, snorkeling, playing.

Do a Google search on both car rentals and mopeds. Lots of info. You'll see that cash or credit is fine...that most people strongly advise against going onto Hwy 307 (the main one in Tulum) on a scooter...and that it is usually cheaper to rent a car. Good luck - We'll be down there the following week- with a rental car.
