Just Read a Couple of Reviews on the Bahia Tulum/Akumal

I just need to vent...I am sick to death of people trashing resorts because they are not up to "North American standards". You want North America standards, stay in North America. Give me a break, this is Mexico, not Michigan, Florida or New York...I cannot believe one poster saying the rooms are old and in need of repair on the Akumal side. The Bahia Akumal (where apparently they stayed) is the newest side, I believe it opened in 2001 or 2002. The rooms, in my humble opinion, are clean and beautiful (stayed on Tulum side twice). It may not be a five star resort in Michigan or any other part of the United States, but it certainly is in the eyes of Mexico. As for little ants in the rooms, did they per chance take food to their rooms or leave opened packages...mmmm...makes me wonder considering the "thousands" of ants they had and what did they expect with the grounds, a category 4 hurricane just blew through there a month ago. Some people you just can't please, unbelievable and if all you are going to do is complain about a particular resort, don't go, stay in North America!!!

Thanks for letting me vent.

We just got back yesterday, having stayed on the Akumal side, and I have to agree with you. The resort was beautiful, and the staff were attentive and went out of their way to help us. Once the hacienda trolley, which was only supposed to go between the hacienda and the lobby, dropped my daughters off at our 'out-of -the- way' villa, because the driver didn't want them waiting for another trolley at night. I don't think they would care like that in the states!

I'll post a formal review soon.

I totally agree with your statement. I think if you're looking for top notch anything- spend the extra money and stay at the Four Seasons or wherever it is that wealthy people vacation. Americans already have a bad enough rap already-without bitching about every little thing. I do realize that we want to have a nice place when we vacation, but in comparison to how the actual citizens of Mexico live these resorts are like palaces. Try no running water, a one room shack, and trying to sell crafts on the street to make money. Get a grip people!
