Trying to determine honeymoon location

My fiance and I are looking for the perfect honeymoon destination, and I figured who better to ask than other discerning travellers. We want something super luxurious, all-inclusive, with beautiful rooms, concierge, 24 hour room service, great dining options, including a grill for through the day snacks or something to that effect, wonderfully clear, beautiful beach. We want to feel like the place isn't crowded...we have been considering the following...oh, we are also hoping to have included golf and scuba...

Riviera Maya/Cancun

Royal Hideaway

Secrets Excellence

Sandals Chains

St. Lucia Regency or Grande

Antigua

Royal Plantation

Please help with any suggestions!!

Thanks,

Heather

Heather,

My fiancee and I were in a very similar position a couple of weeks ago. We'd decided on pretty much the same things as you have, had done a lot of research on the web, read these forums, etc...We determined that we needed an experienced travel agent to help us sort it all out and then get us the best deal possible. We wanted an agent that was willing to really talk to us on the phone and give us the kind of "old fashioned" service that was the norm in the pre-internet days.

I "met" such a person on another of the tripadvisor forums. She did not solicit my business...she offered to refer me to a colleague in the Philadelphia area, which is where we live. After exchanging a couple of emails and then talking on the phone, I realized that SHE was the perfect person to help us. The fact that she was 2+ hours away in northern NJ did not matter. The important thing is trusting the person who advises you no matter where he/she is physically located.

If you would like me to put you in touch with the agent that booked our honeymoon (she is a Sandals Specialist and works with all the major tour operators), I would be glad to. Shoot me an email (edavid1966@yahoo.com) and I'll hook you up with her. She really is awesome. We decided on the new Secrets Excellence Riviera Cancun for our June '05 honeymoon. In fact, we really wanted an oceanview Jr suite with a swimout pool, but according to Secrets, Apple Vacations and some other tour operators, that room category was sold out for our week. She "worked over" her rep with GOGO tours, who called down to the resort and got us confirmed in exactly the suite the others said was not available.

I hope this helps you. Good luck and let me know if I can help further.

Oh, and one other very important thing...since its a brand new resort and we booked by October 15th, we got an early bird discounted rate which was WAY below the rates that Apple and Secrets were selling on their websites for those same dates. Forgot to mention that!

Congratulation on your upcoming nuptuals. My husband and I have stayed at the Royal Hideaway and LOVED it. It seemed liek there were two service people to every one guest and it was almost too much. The food was very good and from what Playamaya (a forum member who LIVES in PDC) says, they offered a restaurant which had passed the government's strict hygiene program and received the "distinctive H (= hygiene)" label as a result. We have sent a few other couples there and they all loved it like we did. We are staying at the Secrets Excellence Riviera Maya this coming December. We stayed at the S/E in Punta Cana and thought it was wonderful. If you look at the Preferred Hotels list....both of these (RH and S/E) make the list. Best of luck to you!! TT
