Has anybody been to the Alux Restaurant? It is in a cave near Playa. Do you need reservations? How much would a cab ride be? We are staying at Royal Haciendas.
Yes its in Playa but not in the tourist section. You might want to go just for drinks and appetizers. It's definitely worth going. Its really awesome but much restaurants in Playa.

It's definately a wow factor. You'll need to cab it to location near 307/Juarez. As CL suggests when I visited dthe food was ok but expensive. We had appetizers and a drink but I've been reading that lately the food has much improved.
Do you need reservations or can you just show up?
Don't know, seems that link isn't working right. We went several years ago-just walked in. Very few places ask for res. especially if you're having a drink and maybe an appetizer. Maybe try googling another website and see if it works.
We went when we were at the Royal Playa del Carmen Oct 2011. Took a cab from the Royal. $10, return different driver $5. We tipped him $5. Just went for drinks. Since it was off season place was empty. Manager showed us around and I took some photos. Planned to stay awhile but since it was empty left after one drink. That night it was very humid. When we first arrived in Playa we had two days of constant downpours with flooded streets. The restaurant flooded. The manager showed us the restaurant sign at bottom of the stairs and indicated how high the water had filled the area. They did a great job of cleaning and drying but it was still very humid. Looked like a great fun place if more people had been there.
