What do you usually tip at your hotel. I usually leave the maid 4 to 5 dollars a day and i tip the waitress/waiters 2 dollars at every meal.

and 2 dollars for every 4 drinks my fiancee and I have . Are we being to cheap. We always stay at the AI and tips are included but how can you not tip people. Whats your take on this.

This is a very sensitive subject on here as people have very different opinion on this.

Here's my tip sheet:

private teansfer from airport=$10

Check-in person possibly $5

breakfast=$2

lunch=$5

dinner=$10

$1/every other drink

$3 AM maid

$2 PM turndown maid

$1 fridge restocker

$5 bell boy/luggage

And anyone else we think deserves it!

They will take whatever you are willing to give them. You will not be penalized for being a poor tipper.

I'm confused by this. Are we talking americian or canadian dollars as opposed to pesos. I was under the impression that it was best to tip in the currency of the country. Could someone please translate the guidelines to pesos? Most of the pesos Im bringing are strictly for tips. I will use credit card for things I want to buy.

Thanks. :)

I am somewhere in the middle, they are all great suggestions. Of course the service has to be good in order for us to tip.

"I'm confused by this. Are we talking americian or canadian dollars as opposed to pesos. "

Coocoo, I’m from NY so this is U.S. dollars. Next to it is the peso equivalent. Like I posted before, I use whatever is handy. If I don’t have 50 pesos, I leave 4 dollars; if I don’t have 25 pesos, I leave 2 dollars. Yes, it's best to tip in the local currency but I don't always have the right amount of pesos. So then I tip in dollars.

Bell boy: 5 dollars or 60 pesos

Maid: 4 dollarss or 50 pesos

Breakfast buffet: 3 dollars or 40 pesos

Minibar: 2 dollars or 25 pesos

Turndown: 2 dollars or 25 pesos

Two drinks: 2 dollars or 25 pesos

Dinner at a la cart: 7 – 10 dollars or 85 – 120 pesos

ETA: I'm going by the 12 pesos/dollar conversion. Obviously that changes.

Out of interest, do Europeans tip at the same sort of level? North America seems a lot more geared to tipping than other places around the world so I would be interested to know what those from across the pond do?
