seeking museums/stores with religious art & native texiles

Hello--- interested in seeing quality Colonial and other Catholic art with traditional representations. Thanks for any recomendations about places where I can see and buy religiously themed work. Also interested in all kinds of native textiles and woven goods, fabrics, rugs etc.

Hi,

Alma Mexicana: http://www.folkart-mexico.com/

Gift Shop of Hotel Media Mundo: http://www.hotelmediomundo.com/giftshop.htm

There are other places located in and around the Centro area, you may need to just walk the area a bit. I can think of 2-3 other places I've been in, but I never noted the names and addresses. It seems like one was on the corner of Calle 55 and 60, but I can't find the name.

For textiles, you'll find some of the most authentic work in the pueblos outside of Merida. There are some great shops in Izamal, for instance, and you can contract with a calesa (horse drawn carriage) to take you to them. Also, outside Hacienda Temozon there are some great shops with beautiful work. The haciendas (the ones owned by Starwood) also have small gift shops with that sort of thing. Not a big selection in any of them though.

Also, you might check in these stores:
