Mexican Oregano?

In one of the other posts here a few people referred to things they like to bring home and one was Mexican oregano - not familiar with it. Do you buy it because it so much better than oregano from the grocery stores at home or is it a different taste? I always bring back bags of dried chilis (so many more types than at home) but I am interested in finding out about the oregano. Also do you just buy it at the IM grocery stores?

According to Penzeys, mexican oregano is stronger and less sweet.

I haven't bought any on Isla so I can't answer that part.

Its leafier and more coarse - and I would agree, less sweet. You can buy it from any store and its equivalent to about a $1.00 a package. We brought some home in March - gave a few packages out to special friends and have used the rest up!! And be bought quite a few packages. We try to recreate our meals from Isla at home. It helps until we are back on the island.

Most grocery stores in our area carry Mexican oregano. In certain dishes, it really is essential. Sopa de Lima, for example, needs Mexican Oregano to get the aroma just right.
