Debbie

I know Carnival to be the week long party before Lent, ending with Fat Tuesday because the next day is Ash Wed which is Feb 6th this year.

Ash Wed starts the Lent period of 40 days till Easter.

I did read on this forum that elections are in Feb and they don't serve during those two days so they moved carnival up a week, not sure what the church thinks of that!

Try the Isla Mujeres web page and see if they have a calendar of events

Tuesday, January 29, is the last day of Isla's Carnaval this year. There's a costumed parade down Rueda Medina (the main street) starting at 11 AM. Dance groups perform in the town square. The fiesta goes on into the evening. So take the ferry over the day after you arrive in Cancun.

While it's a bit more crowded, it's mostly just more crowded during the evening and some of the dancing is just fabulous! :)
