Car rental in Cozumel

I have been on Kayak and other sites, and found really cheap daily rates sarting feom 12usd. Then when they add taxes, airport fee, and mandatory insurance, we're at 30usd per day. What insurance is mandatory. Who is reputable car rental.

I'd say that ISIS is the most popular with Thrifty a close 2nd. Isis rents for $35. per day w/ everything included. The cars are sometimes rather beat up. Don't drink and drive.

Be carefull , we purchased the on line car deal and it included ALL insurance, When we arrived they [AVIS] would not accept the printed PAID copy of the insurance we had. We ended up paying $15 p/day for the 10 days we had reserved. To date we have not been able to get a response much less a refund. That was 2 years ago, ISIS ever since.

You can get nice new cars from Thrifty for under 200 a week including liability insurance(mandatory). Collision is more(optional but i suggest you get it). An alternative with them is paying with an AMEX card. Your card has an option for a $25 collision for the entire rental period, but you will have to activate it before you go. This gives you the works for under 225 with zero deductable. A big plus there is you can rent at the airport so there's no cab ride to somewhere else to get your car(makes getting back on the plane really easy).

We rent from ISIS $35 a day for a beater VW convertible for short trips. When we're down for a week we rent from Thrifty.

ISIS has a deductible and Thrifty you can pay $25 a day for full coverage which includes tires, mirrors and windows. It averages $40 a day but it's a ZERO deductible and we get a/c, automatic and C/D player (which makes those trips around the island more fun with Kenny C playing) The rental at Thrifty is around 12-15 USD but add the $25 insurance and it averages $40.

Once we rented from Thrifty with the full coverage with zero deductible and oour car was hit parked in front of our condo.. a 3 sentence statement on the accident report and we were back on the road. We use the thrifty / dollar .com websites each time to reserve an have never had a problem.

They are both reputable and Margarita at ISIS is a sweetheart - just don't pet the cat too roughly!!

UncleDaryl that's funny!!

We always do Thrifty for the same reasons Linkslady said. Zero $$ deductible - and nice roomy car with AC and CD player.

PS - you can ususally find a coupon online for Thrifty MXTF2 or something like that - 1 or 2 days free depending on the length of your rental.
