Cancun to tulum

How long is the trip to tulum from cancun? Looking to do a tour with entertainment-plus, which includes a trip to tulum then on to xel-ha. Just wondering the travelling time for this trip, doesn't really tell you on their site, has anyone done this trip. Do not want hours in a car!

Thanks for any help.

If it's a cheap tour that goes by bus, you may not be happy. They tend to stop at a lot of hotels, pick up 2-3 people, then move on to the next hotel. You get a great tour of the hotel zone....before even moving on to the highway to leave town. Then, on the way back, you get to do it all over again. I did a Tulum tour year ago this way, even though it was ~7 hours, we had about 2 hours there, wasn't enough. Spent all the time in the bus.

Just say no to tours. Tours are for people that can't.

A straight drive from Cancun airport to the ruins at Tulum, assuming no exceptional traffic issues, would be in the region of 90 minutes or so. Given that you're coming from the hotel zone and not the airport, you can tack a few more minutes onto that estimate.

I agree with Bella when it comes to Tulum - it's so easy to do-it-yourself, there's really no need for a tour. Take the ADO bus to Tulum (change in Playa del Carmen) and then taxi from the bus station to the ruins. Get there early to avoid heat and crowds. Follow this with lunch on Tulum beach proper. If you're into snorkelling, either after lunch or before (there are places to eat at Akumal Beach), then taxi to Akumal beach. After snorkellng, taxi or collectivo to Playa del Carmen for some retail therapy and dinner and then ADO or taxi back to Cancun.
