End of the World party destination?

Hi there. I'm a 24 year old male, travelling to Mexico this December with a friend of the same age.

We're looking for a singles-oriented resort. We're specifically interested in any parties/events based on the whole '2012 end of the world' Mayan calendar deal. I am hoping such a party would live up to its name. Not sure where to find out information about this.

Also wondering whether we should be looking for an all-inclusive party package, or simply get a cheaper resort and take a taxi to the party (if we can find out about one).

Our last trip was to the "Valentin Imperial Maya" resort which carries a 4.5 star rating on Tripadvisor. No singles in sight. 90%+ of the guests were over the age of 30, so it was not exactly what we were looking for. But apart from that it was perfect.

The budget is $1000-1800 per person.

Thanks for your help.

DaveN- I would think being at Chichen Itza on Dec 20 could be the best party of them all.

Nightclubs/bars you might have to call each to find out what there up too in that regard, once you arrive.

http://www.docancun.com/cancun-nightlife.htm

Hotel choices for cancun strip area, all are AI hotels

1. Grand Oasis/Oasis- 18-30 age range

2. Riu Cancun- Walking distance to nightclubs

3. Golden Parnassus- Adult only 25-60 age range

4. Temptation- Adult only 25-50 age range

All four of the above are lively-roudy on any giving week.

Map above shows what area in the hotel zone each hotel is at.

Cancun strip runs from 1KM-22KM Kukulcan blvd, shaped like the number "7"

KM=Kilometer=0.62 miles

The nightclubs are in the 8.0-10.0KM area

Chichen Itza is about 126 miles from Cancun. Tours can be had for as little as $80 per person, up to around $120 each. All day long event, like 7am-6pm. Again check at the hotel you book for any special events going on there ahead of time.

Dave - I've stayed in Cancun before at the RIU Caribe. we were 4 fellas around 20 years old at the time. it was a great party hotel. we were there from the 16-23 i believe.. give or take a day. We met up with people and went to bars every night, probably a group of 20 of us. 40$ per night all inclusive to bars (no transportation on way home)

That was 5 years ago.

3 years ago I went to Akumal/Tulum area - Stayed at Gran Bahia Coba with my girlfriend... not as much of a party atmosphere but still met lots of folks to party with... great hotel if you'd like to be closer to Chichen Itza for a 'end of world party' (I'm basing the fact that there is a party there based on C-busDawg post above)

This year we're heading to Cancun at Gran Caribe Real .. looks like a great resort. we'll be there 20th-30th of December. We'll be making our rounds along the Bar Strip.

Actually, 12/21/12 will not be the end of the world. It will be the end of humanity. The world will still be here. Oh, and humans who are diving on that day.

I heard that there is a big party in Chichen Itza on Dec. 21st, and master of ceremonies there will be Santana.

Santana? You heard this from whom?

If parties are what you're looking for, avoid Chichen. SOMETHING will be going on there that could be well be worth the trip, but a "party like it's 1999" probably won't be in the cards.

Have a great trip!

Look up "synthesis2012.com". There is a celebration planned at Chichen Itza 12/20-23.
