Restaurant reservations necessary during Guelaguetza?

I will be in Oaxaca July 20-28 this year during Guelaguetza? Are advanced restaurant reservations necessary during this week? What is the most common/popular time to eat in the evening? Mid-day meals are the main meal or no? Thank you.

Comida, lunch for Americans, is traditionally eaten between about 2 & 4, and sometimes drags on until later. It's the main, and heaviest meal of the day, although Oaxacans also traditionally have a big breakfast. Cena, dinner, is a bit lighter, and is usually eaten from about 8:30 pm onwards. For example, last night we met a friend for cena at 8:30, and when we left around 10:30, the place was hopping .... but it was a strictly local haunt. In terms of reservations, it depends on the type of restaurant. I would suggest making reservations if you can, as soon as you arrive, for the higher end places. Given the foregoing Oaxacan dining hours, you may not need reservations if you plan to have lunch at noon and dinner at six .... but if you're at a Oaxacan restaurant frequented by mainly Oaxacans, at those hours it may not be all that alegre since you may be the only ones there. Enjoy.
