Etla Wednesday Market

I have been to Oaxaca a few times but have never been to the Wed. market in Etla. I'll be in Oaxaca soon and would like to catch a bus or collectivo to Etla. The problem is, which Etla? There seems to be more than one when I look at the map. Would appreciate any input from the forum.

Villa Etla. All cabbies, colectivos and bus drivers will know what you mean.

We're going to Oaxaca in March. I've never heard of Etla, is this a market worth visiting? Thanks!

Once you've been to the Sunday Tlacolula market, the others do not seem to have the same allure, pageantry, etc. ... Etla included.

I was thinking that since I've already been to the Tlacolula and Ocotlan markets, I would combine the Etla market with San Jose el Mogote and San Augustin Etla. I haven't really been north of Oaxaca City for any exploring. I was also considering Santa Maria Atzompa, but maybe that should be on a seperate outing.

Then that's a great idea, and you can do it all in the one day, starting out with a reliable driver at say 9:30 am. Make sure you get into the Mogote community museum, more impressive than the ruin itself. Enjoy!

I just posted an item on the forum about how I was robbed while I was visiting the Etla market on a recent vacation in Oaxaca. So, obviously, I wouldn't suggest going there, but I suppose what happened could happen at any marketplace or event where there are tourists and people who want to steal their money. Be on your guard!
