oaxaca in early January -

WE arrive in Oaxaca on January 3rd for two weeks. . This is our third visit. Are there any special activities going on while we are there? WE don't want to arrive and miss something.

The 6th is Día de Reyes Magos. There may be posters floating around with activities in different locales for that day so keep your eyes peeled and check with your accommodation host. For sure there will be things happening in the zócalo (see video link below). Different closeby towns have varying traditions, of course thematically the same, so if you happen to be in the villages on a day tour, confirm with your guide or driver.

Otherwise, check oaxacacalendar.com for January activities, but do so just before you leave for vacation and after your arrival since sometimes the calendar is updated at the last minute once details of activities are confirmed.

Here are a couple of YouTube videos of the 6th:

It's a kick just watching everyone mob the bakeries for their rosca de reyes--the ring shaped bread with the baby Jesus doll in it! Since you've been to Oaxaca before, you probably know that walking around town--especially the zocalo/alameda, the Llano, and the Plaza de las Danzas--is often the best way to run across events.
