Overstay Mexico on free 7 days visa
Save

Hey There,

I had to stay 7 days extra as the flight out were cheaper but had to stay 14 days instead of 7 days on the free visa in Mexico ... I'm leaving next Sunday ...

Do anyone know if there'll be a cost or not as I have a visa that seems the same than the 180 days ...

If it comes with cost ... do you know how much it could be ?

Thanks in advance,

Daniel

Look at your air ticket and see if the price of the FMM (tourist permit) was included, if your FMM has a stamp on it , it is paid for...If not go to any bank and pay the $20+ dollars so you will not be fined at departure.......

Thank you for the quick reply ...

I crossed at Tijuana's border so I did not pay ... I was planning on leaving within the period ...

You think they will be annoying when I go ?

20 dollars for 7 days sounds kind of expensive when it is the price for 180 days :s

You will have to pay when you leave or pay at a bank before you go. If you think 20 USD is expensive then stay another 166 days - or refuse to pay and stay indefinitely for no charge at the nearest "all-inclusive" jail :)

Daniel G, I would also go at least the day before, if not sooner, to purchase (pay for) the FMM. If not, you could be delayed on the day of your departure, long enough that you miss your flight.... and then the cost goes even higher (additional hotel costs).

¡Se diviertán!

Thanks for your help...

Could you explain exactly how it works to pay it at the bank?

I will not take the risk to miss my flight..

Personally I would not pay at a bank since many times they will not know how to process it! (If you had done this near the border they would have known.) And if you cannot speak Spanish it will be even more difficult. I would just get to the airport very early and do it there - lots of nice places to have a drink and something to eat if you end up with time to kill.

Hey Steve...

Thanks for the advice but my flight is at 9.45 so I'm concerned if I could take care of this... And if the bank would be open at the airport to do this ...

You wouldn't pay at a bank in Mexico City airport but at the Immigration office which I assume is open 24 hours. However I can understand you wanting to sort it out with an early flight and you could certainly try a bank near your hotel first. Or the Central INM office in Polanco (open 9-1) would certainly sort you out.

I am puzzled by this. The OP wouldn't have a visa if from the EU, so assume he is talking about the immigration card he was given when crossing from the US into Mexico. Are you only given seven days? Normally tourists are given 180, but maybe different rules apply for people crossing for quick trips by land. If you have overstayed, you will need to pay e normal exirt fee, plus a fine for overstaying. I thinking this usually works out at the equivalent of about 40 USD per day.

Londinense writes: " I thinking this usually works out at the equivalent of about 40 USD per day."

On a fly around vacation in Mexico I saw signs entering the MC, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta airports and all had signs by immigration that basically stated :

For no or lost FMM there will be a $45 USD charge for replacement......

so it seems the fine is double the original cost of an FMM and not $40 USD a day.........
