urgent yet delicate subject

When one is out and about sightseeing in Mexico City and nature calls, where does one go? Are there public restrooms anywhere? Do all restaurants have restrooms? What does one do when one becomes "desperate"? Not worried if I have to pay, just as long as there's a place to go!

Relax you are going to one of the Worlds Great cities. All businesses including bars, restraints, department stores, museums have Banos. In addition public restrooms are in many places & are usually about 3 or 4 pesos or less,

Finding a public restroom isn't always easy - though foreign travelers have it easier than many Mexicans do. Many public restrooms are filthy, and there's a charge to use them. If you're ouot and about look for a Sanborn's or Vip's (department store/restaurant, respectively) and you can use the rooms there.

Think about taking your own toilet paper. Just enough for an emergency! In the public Sanitarios (like at Xochimilco and Estadio Azteca, per my experience) you have to buy it on your way in.

Good advice, above. One of the bad things about Mexico is forcing people to pay for use of public toilets. Several sheets of TP are handed you for your MX$2-5 peso entrance fee, and when you need more, the attendant sometimes gives it to you for free . . . or asks for more money. Carry a small roll in your daypack or purse.
