Leaving in a week for a wedding in San Miguel de Allende. Flying in to Mexico City due to only convenient connections and cost but also want to see more of central Mexico. We'll be in San Miguel for 4 days but have 2 more to explore at the beginning of the stay. I've spent a lot of time researching and kinda stumped.
Love to see Teotihuacan, Puebla or spend a day in central Mexico City. We're not museum/gallery people and I have a few thoughts I'd appreciate opinions on.
Is Puebla going to be similar enough to San Miguel that I can skip Puebla?
We've been to Coba and Tulum ruins on the Mayan Coast and loved it. Thought that Teotihuacan would be worth spending most of a day.
Lastly, flying into Benito Juárez fairly late after (10:00 pm) and wondering whether I can make it to a hotel near Teotihuacan that night or should I stay near the airport, then leave in the morning. Love to rent a car but I am getting concerned about being scammed by the rental companies. Had that happen in Italy and you are completely stuck when you get an extra bill months later, even though everything was signed OK when you dropped off.
Any other suggestions appreciated. Trying to avoid the organized bus tours as we've found you spend half the time running to all the hotels to pick-up people and limited time at the site.
