Going to Guadalajara in a few weeks any beach recommendation

I've been to Guadalajara many times before as a child, but wanted to do a bit more touristy stuff around the area as an adult now for a couple of days. After that, we wanted to hit up a local beach and were looking at Manzanillo since we've never been. We're unsure of renting a car or taking public transportation yet. We're a couple in our 30's both proficient in Spanish. What beach areas would you recommend that are local (wouldn't mind going 4-5 hours out)? We've been to Cancun (loved it), Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Mazatlan, and Cabo before. Any ideas or do you think Manzanillo is the place to go? We're looking for relaxation and also an area that we can explore also. We've heard Colima and Comala are nice towns to explore while in the area? We're open to suggestions. Thanks!

I like vey much BARRA DE NAVIDAD 45 minuts from Manzanillo. This is a very unic place. On Barra de Navidad town are several little hotel, like barra de Navidad ocean front and unexpensive hotel.

There is a web page, barra de Navidad.

Now if you want to try some of the best hotels in México, there is the Isla Navidad.com

Other place good to try are the Las casitas at careyes Resort, about one hour from Barrra de navidad towar P Vallarta road.( careyes.com)Sersol

Manazanillo is statistically Mexico's safest city. Lovely beaches/cafés & hotels. Our favorite is La Posada http://www.hotel-la-posada.info/. On Playa Brisas a almost empty beach that stretches for miles.

Lots to see & do in the area. It's but 4 hour first class bus trip from Guadalajara. A night on Colima's lovely lovely plaza is a excellent choice. Perhaps the twin volcanoes will be puffing.

PS Barra de Natividad & Meleque are lovely but somewhat more limited.

Manzanillo is nice, however, my favorite beach destination near Guadalajara is Rincon de Guayabitos. It's a little difficult to get to - you have to take a bus to Jaltemba, then a taxi to Guayabitos, but it's worth the trip. You can get a nice hotel on the beach for $25. There's no night life there, but the beach is a bay and therefore you don't have the undertow and waves to deal with like you do with many other beaches on the west coast. (There aren't a lot of obnoxious gringos to deal with either). I also don't recommend that you rent a car. First class bus service is very comfortaable and reasonably priced.

Like the other reader suggested, Barra de Navidad is also very nice. If you go there and want to splurge, check out Isla de Navidad.
