The full program for Zacatecas Semana Santa/Semana de Pasqua festival is at www.festivalculturalzacatecas.mx. Highlights include Gipsy Kings opening, Lila Downs, and the ¿are they still alive? feature, KC & the Sunshine Band in Plaza de Armas. Typically I like lots of the smaller venues - this year classical guitar as well as chamber groups in the beautiful ex-convento de San Francisco looks great. Most events are free, teatro calderon & teatro museo felguerez may have like a $50 peso charge mostly to keep out the riff-raff and noise makers, inside events its annoying to have too much movement.
Lots of gallery shows and installations, traditional mariachi and mexican dance also.
In the region - the best sabado de gloria (sat before easter) is no question Jerez, Zacatecas, 1 hour from the capital city. 2000+ charros on horseback swilling mescal and lassoing the exploding Judas figures, about 20 banda bands (earplugs!), dancing in the plaza, concerts, a charreria & bullfight, big parade begins about 10 am, Judases go off 12:30, then fiesta - its the kickoff to the Festival de Primavera. Everybody comes back from USA, Jerez has 50 yr migration tradition, so English is widely spoken. Unwise to drive after 7 pm.
In San Luis Potosi good Friday is the largest Procesion de Silencio in MX - passion play starting in the am, the procession is about 7 pm, very impressive.
If you like the viacrucis, the crucifixion passion plays, many small municipalities have very fervent and special events - Tabasco, Zac and Charcas SLP and Real de Catorce SLP are well done, check the town websites...
