We have been home from PV just under a month, and have both a spring and fall trip on the books.

Much greater chance of us getting caught in gang crossfire he in the LA area than being in any danger in PV.

Please go and enjoy, it is very safe and our favorite destination. Just remember to not leave your common sense at home.

And now on the lighter side of life.

Yes it's safe to travel to Puerto Vallarta. Since you mention April, I will mention it will be very busy if you go over the Easter (santa semana) holiday weeks.

You should continue with your plans without worry. We have been traveling here for many years and continue to return. It's my top favorite destination. We were just in PV in Nov/Dec and are returning for two weeks at the end of March. If it was risky, we definitely wouldn't continue to return. With travel becoming more and more expensive we find that we just can't top Mexico and especially PV, for an out of the country vacation!

The first two weeks of April this year will be very crowded with Nationals as they have time off the week prior to and after Easter. That is not a safety problem but some areas will be very crowded with travelers from Mexico, so maybe plan on just before that time or just after, especially if you are wanting to spend time on Los Muertos Beach in town. On the flip side It can also be a very interesting time too. :-)

Traditionally, petty crime (wallet stealing, etc. ) is a bit higher around Easter. Not all visitors are honest. I wouldn´t leave my valuables on the beaches while you swim for example. Or if you have a balcony, you might want to keep your valuables hidden, not right in front of an open balcony or window.

But, otherwise, yes it is safe. Enjoy!

Despite what some on here would have you believe, travelling to PV means you are exposing yourself to incredibly high risks for many things, including:

- hangovers

- sunburn

- popped waist buttons on your shorts

- severe decreases in work productivity both before you go and after you return

Don't say you haven't been warned.

"Safer than Dallas :)"

We have a friend who is an emergency dispatch officer for a suburb city of Dallas, she travels solo and stays in PV for a month each year.
