Still travel-related question about calling US

if using Mexican landline, which i am sure many condo rentals have, how can you call from Mexican landline to US cell phone?

We plan to have all mexican numbers shortly (need to buy mexican cell for hubby & need Mexican sim card for my cell - wow, i sound like i know of what i am speaking, right?? LOL), but in the meantime, we only have one US cell phone & one Mexican landline. Does anyone know what numbers need to be used if using Mexico landline to call US cell phone? i googled & tried everything but nothing seems to work out.

I had to look up making a variety of types of calls the other day, for my upcoming trip, and the web site below is very thorough and up to date, if you want other info as well.

It explains that the new deal in making international calls of any kind, is that a + sign is the new replacement for 001. Possibly 001 will still work but the + gets you an international line now anywhere in the world.

The sheet below is for Merida but applies to PV if you change the number group 044 and 045 ...to 055 for Puerto Vallarta, and the number group 999... to 322 for the Puerto Vallarta area code.

Ignore the plus sign. It's not something you input.

Just dial 1 or "001" as Lib mentions. (The plus sign is just "phone lingo" to indicate that the "00" has been dropped. Try both of those.

On our phone we have to hold down on the 0 to get the + sign

Verizon has a program that allows you to call anywhere in Mexico or the U S while traveling.

Unlimited texts & phone calls pretty reasonable

Additional to your land line, if you install WhatsApp on your cell phone, after you install the new SIM card, you can at least call friends and family, as well as texting, for free ---- as long as they have the WhatApp "app" installed also. So many do.

Whatsap is free when you are under WiFi. Of course you can always use it but if not under WiFi it relates back to your phone terms and usage.

We use it all the time in Mexico.

If it is a Telmex landline, for 100% sure it is 001 and then the 10 digit number. There is something different about your situation. Ask whoever’s line it is. If it is your account, go to Telmex in Plaza Caracol.
