Mazatlan Cerveza in Turmoil

Annheuser-Busch InBev, a Dutch Corporation, which already owns a fifty per-cent share of Grupo Modelo has announced they have a deal in place to purchase the remaining fifty per-cent.

The US Justice Department today filed an anti-trust suit to block this merger.

Among initial reports are the new conglomerate would close the Mazatlan Pacifico Brewery and sell off the Venados Baseball Team.

Details are sketchy at this time.

Blue49 is absolutely right. There is no better beer available then Pacifico and drinking it in Mazatlan is even better

On the other front, the Mayor of Mazatlan announced today that Grupo Modelo committed to participating in funding a new Venados stadium.

This will get interesting.

Keep us posted, certainly the Venados will not just "go away" and Maz without Pacifico...well, just wouldn't be the same.

Nothing compares to drinking a Pacifico on the beach in Mazatlan. I buy Pacifico's here in Houston a few weeks before our annual trip. I call it my "beach training" :)

I seriously hope the Pacifico factory does not desert Mazatlan. Would be another blow, just like the lack of cruise ships.

Yeungling here in states seems similar to Pacifico to me. Though in MZT I'll choose the "home" brew every time..

I can't imagine hoisting a Bud Light at a Venados game.

The mayors statement and Venados statement are here

The manager of the Venados said all he has heard was rumors. Nothing official.
