One Day in Mazatlan - With Young Kids

We are coming to Mazatlan for one day in March, 2010. Off of one of the cruise ships. We are in port from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm.

We have four kids, ages 6 and younger. They normally like the beach and learning about new cultures. None of us are really into shopping. We would like them to possibly have a bit of beach time but also, ideally, see a bit of "real" Mexico. Any ideas ??

I am assuming you are coming in on a cruise ship. Take them to the large market downtown (look for the meat area), cross the street and let them look in the beautiful church, then take a pulmanea (taxi) to the Golden Zone for beach time.

I suggest the Aquarium or the beach on Stone Island.

I second the aquarium...great place for your kids...then hit the beach in the golden zone...not sure when they open in the morning...I am sure someone does :) The open market downtown and the church are really something to see as well...but if I was a kid I would rather go to the aquarium..

Hi Mike, Welcome to the forum.

If you look to your right, you will see a section called "Top Questions" In it there is a great Trip Report from someone that came to town on a cruise with his kids and the day he had sounds just about what you are looking for. You could probably figure out a way to change it to suit your beach needs as well.

Stone Island is a great and very easy excursion for cruise passengers since the water taxi to the "island" is right where your ship docks. Stone Island is not really an island but a nice beach with a few restaurants right on the beach and plenty of activities such as horse back riding, ATV rentals etc. Definitely a fun day for kids.

I think you would have a great time at the aquarium and the beach after the sea lion show is good I think your kids would love it!!! it is educational too!!! Las Flores or the Playa both have a nice beach for the kids..
