A visit to Las Labradas is always good. You can also take a catamaran to Deer Island across from the Golden Zone and hike to the top of the island.

I second El Quillette. While there, visit the old panaderia (bakery)

The music scene is wonderful. Friend Rob Lamonica and get his schedule. Mostly in Centro. Also performances at Angela Peralt Theatre.

Deep sea fishing is really fun, and pretty economical for a family, since you rent the whole boat and the Captain and his mate, bait, and fish cleaning is all included in the price. Also, they give you the fish (just take what you can eat and let the Captain have the rest, along with his monetary tip) filleted and ready to cook. Bring it back to your Hotel Restaurant Kitchen and they will usually be happy to cook it up and serve it to you. Typically, the rest of the additional dinner fixins and the restaurant table service costs just a very nominal fee for the tator and salad/bread. There's a certain euforic pride that comes with serving your family a dinner that you caught that morning! lol Dont forget the dramamine for you and your kids. It really helps and has no side affects.

A day at Maz Agua is a blast.

A food tour of some of the fabulous little food stands with Maaike from Flavor Teller

Purchasing Shrimp from Las Changueras and taking it to Dunia's (around the corner) and having the prepare them.

Take in a Venado's game (depending on when you're there)

We were there last year and a few of my kids favourite memories (albeit they are young adults) were the view from rooftop of posada freeman hotel . There’s a pool there so they could swim while you drink...in the view ;)

also they LOVED the pulmonias and the ride out to playa pruja in arriga was a blast! They loved that beach. It is rougher for swimming so be careful where they dip but we rented a shelter, boogie boards and bought bucket of beers from the fabulous restaurant there mr Lionso and sat and had a beach day with mostly locals. Great beach for walking (near riu).

But I would have to say by far the turtle release would be a tour that I would highly recommend. It only runs certain days a week but the kids loved it. You get to pick a name a turtle and then there’s a little boat ride that they do with you to look for crocodiles which we saw alligators can’t remember which. So honestly I would highly recommend the turtle released as number one, your own little excursion out to play a brouhaha’s number two and hotel if you wish to see that view

Do spend a bunch of time around Plaza Machado: 50+/- restaurants within walking distance and a lot of music and places to stay. Golden Zone is replicated worldwide, but there's only one Centro.
