Secrets beach - deal breaker

We are planning another trip back to Huatulco, and are wondering about trying the new Secrets for one week. Have been reading reviews and quite a number of comments about not being able to swim in the ocean. We have been at the Barcelo and spent most of our time in the pool - ocean was too rough. And the Las Brisas a number of times because we loved the beaches there. Love Las Brisas and think we might be dissapointed at Secrets because of the beach. Only thinking about it because its somewhere new. Might regret it tho. Please let us know your beach experiences at Secrets. Thank you, LA

The beach directly in front of Secrets is a bit steep and there are some rocks in the water - we didn't try swimming there. Also, the sand is course and moderately difficult to walk on. On the same beach, more in front of the fisherman's shack it is much better for swimming and walking. Additionally there is a beautiful beach behind the fisherman's shack that is easy to walk and easy to get to from the Secrets beach. You didn't mention when you were planning to visit. I'm sure that others can chime in as to what times of year you are more like to encounter calmer waters.

The view of the beach and ocean from the resort is beautiful - yes, the beach is steep the closer you get to the ocean, but where the palapas and chairs are it is very nice. Yes, the sand gets very hot in the afternoon, although if you're wearing sandals you'll be okay. During our 1 week stay in March every morning we walked the whole length of the beach. We swam in the calmer shallower water at one end of the beach by the fishing shack and also swam at the other beach we walked to following the path though the trees behind the fishing shack. The pools are beautiful - very large and heated - with beautiful views! And there being only one resort on this beach was a bonus - it's your very own private beach. For us, it's the guaranteed hot sunny weather that draws us to Huatulco, the swimability of the ocean is secondary.

We would not let the beach/surf be the “deal breaker”. You see, there are 9 bays and 36 beaches in Huatulco and most folks who visit here try-out and enjoy many of the beaches while they are here. We live in Chahue and though it is our favorite beach, do not limit ourselves, and romp and splash at many of the others.

We say, get off campus and experience all that Huatulco offers.

Hope this helps. Your questions are always welcome.

Conejos used to be our favourite for sunning and swimming, before Secrets was built. I'm not sure why it's suddenly a difficult or dangerous place to swim.

Yes, I agree with KT, pre-Secrets that was our favorite beach to hang out. But we sat by the fisherman's shack. We did notice when we walked down towards Secrets, that the beach directly in front wasn't the greatest.

Try the mouth of the copalita river. The snook should be there that time of year. There are fish on both ends of the secrets beach. Fish are holding to the structure. Rock/Reef formations.

We thought the beach was gorgeous. Loved the comfy beach beds. We also swam over by the fishing shack. We really loved Secrets.
