we just had 8 days in Aonang with extended family. There were ten of us traveling together - two families. Unfortunately both of our boys (aged 12 and 15) became very ill half way through our stay. They started vomiting during the night - violently - many times. In the morning we asked the hotel to call a doctor to come to us. They were too sick to move from the room. Dr Somboon came. He has a practice just up past the Mcdonalds - with a huge sign out front Dr Somboon Polyclinic.
I want to give him a high recommendation here in case others need medical care. He has been practicing in the area for 20 years and is a very experienced doctor. He spent nearly an hour with us in the hotel room and treated the boys with various anti-nausea drugs and started them on antibiotics.
The injection did not work with our eldest son - Dr Somboon came back later with his nurse and administered a stronger drug which did stop the vomiting. He then telephoned us at least four more times and told us we could call his mobile at any hour for help.
One of our boys had to have IV glucose - which he administered in the hotel room. Both boys were very ill and could not leave the bed for three days. One week on, they are still very weak.
Dr Somboon explained things very clearly to us - gave us instructions in writing - filled in all the necessary paper work for our insurance claim and was very supportive.
I hope this doesn't happen to any of you. We have been traveling to Thailand regularly since our boys were born and this is the worst thing that has happened to us. You just never know - so please take all precautions you can. Use hand gel - and I would now also wipe down hotel room surfaces with antibacterial wipes, just to be sure.
Thanks to Dr Somboon - you really helped us through this difficult time.
