Somewhere nice to stay

In October I am going to be travelling on Business (from the UK to Haupage. From what I can find out about the place, there doesn't seem to be much there of interest outside of work.

I was thinking of basing myself in Islip as it looks like it might be a nice place to while away a few hours of an evening and might even have some nice scenery.

Is this the case, and can anyone recommend a reasonable place to stay. (around $100 - $150 per night)?

I'm not sure what you're seeing in Islip that makes you think it would be preferable to Hauppage. The hotels I know of in Islip are all near the airport there (Islip Macarthur) on the road leading to the airport with nothing of great interest nearby. I know that the Hilton Garden Inn in islip is a decent place to stay, but the location leaves a lot to be desired unless you're coming or going from that airport.

The Residence Inn in Hauppage/Islandia will likely be more convenient for you.

If you wanted to be in a more attractive location, Port Jefferson would be better options but.... with the budget you have, it's only going to buy a chain hotel most of which are on or near a highway. Danford's is on the water in this cute town where you could walk to several restaurants, but will be above your budget and provide a commute to work.

I would just stay in the best hotel near your work that fits your budget. Assuming you'll have a car to get around, you can do some exploring in the evenings to Port Jefferson.

there is a Holiday Inn Express in Hauppauge right off the LIE (exit 56). There is nothing within walking distance except a gas station and Italian restaurant.

It would be convenient for exploring both the north and south shore by car.

Hauppauge is a mix of corporate/residential. Where in Hauppauge will you be?

There are lots of towns on the south shore (Montauk Hwy) for taking a ride to in the evening for dinner.

Patchogue, Islip, Bayshore and Babylon come to mind.

There a few good restaurant in Hauppauge as well, but not strolling around...just park and eat.

Port Jeff is nice too!!!
