I reserved FF tickets for the last week of May, flying into Verona.
Unfortunately, I'm finding that a lot of accommodations are closed in places like Ortisei or Selva. At least on booking.com, most are showing as "Sold Out." I checked the hotel web sites of a few and it looks like a lot of them wouldn't be open yet.
One that I emailed said late June more or less.
Not looking to do any serious hiking. Just want to see the famous scenery. A lot of the cabin cars and chair lifts in the Val Gardena seem to be closed until June as well. A couple of them open up in mid or late May.
But it sounds like weather could still be uncertain.
What would be a good base for a first time visitor to the Dolomites, for 3 or 4 nights, driving from Verona?
Or should I be prepared to make other plans -- perhaps visit the Lakes or spend time in other parts of Northern Italy -- if the weather isn't going to be the best or a lot of places are still closed?
