From Naples to the Dolomites - where to go and how?

We are a couple wanting to combine a holiday in Capri with a week hiking in the Dolomites. (Pref staying in one place all week.)

Question - where should we go to get the "maximum Dolomites experience" - i.e lovely place/town, great scenery, lots of good hikes accessible from hotel.

And - what is the best way to get there? take a flight from Naples to where in Northern Italy - OR - go for a looong trainride?

Hoping for gread advice!

In my opinion the two best places to stay are Cortina d'Ampezzo and Ortisei. Both lovely and lively towns with great scenery and lots of excellent hikes.

If you want to go to Cortina from Naples take a flight to Venice, then drive or hire a driver to Cortina (2 hours drive). From Venice you can also take the train to Calalzo di Cadore + bus to Cortina.

If you want to go to Ortisei from Naples take a flight to Verona, then drive or hire a driver to Ortisei (2,5 hours drive). From Verona you can also take the train to Bolzano + bus to Ortisei.
